Future Magic Mix

Automation and a screen reader in one app: Future magic Droid and Future Magic Screen Reader in a single accessibility service.

All of Future magic Droid's rules, volume and power key triggers and more, with a built-in screen reader. Turn the reader on or off with the "Toggle screen reader mode" action on any trigger you choose. When the reader is off, the app works exactly like Future magic Droid. Free, no account, no ads. Requires Android 8.0 or newer and a 64-bit phone.

Before you install: honest limits

  • Only one screen reader at a time: turn off TalkBack or any other screen reader, including Future Magic Screen Reader, before you turn on the reader in Mix.
  • One app is best: Mix already contains Future magic Droid, so don't run its rules alongside a separate Future magic Droid on the same keys.
  • 64-bit phones only (arm64), Android 8.0 or newer.
  • First release: it has not been tried on every phone yet. If something does not work on yours, tell us.

How to install

  1. Pick an edition and download it

Tap "Download Mix Lite" or "Download Mix Max" at the top of the page. The file is saved to your Downloads folder.

  2. Allow installing from unknown sources

Open the file from Downloads. Android asks you to allow the app you opened it from (your browser or file manager) to install unknown apps. Tap "Settings", turn on "Allow from this source", go back and tap "Install".

  3. Allow restricted settings (Android 13 and newer)

If the service switch is greyed out, open "App info" for Future Magic Mix, tap the ⋮ menu, choose "Allow restricted settings", and confirm.

  4. Turn on the accessibility service

Open Settings › Accessibility, choose Future Magic Mix under installed services, and turn it on.

  5. Link the screen reader to a trigger

Create a rule, pick the trigger you like, and add the "Toggle screen reader mode" action. Each time the trigger fires, the reader turns on or off.
